Stress-free family travel

• Keep all your trip info in one place.  Use a pocket folder to hold passports, airline tickets,  itineraries, frequent flyer numbers,  car rental and hotel info, and a contact list with phone numbers from home (neighbors, dog kennel) and your destination (planned activities).
• Create a packing list for each member of the family a week before the trip.  Find an out-of-the-way place in your home (like the guest room) where you can start packing several days before you leave, checking items off the list as you pack them.
• Zipper food storage bags are great for organizing suitcases!  Pack socks in one, underwear in another, toiletries in another for easy packing and unpacking.  For little kids, pack day-by-day:  put an entire day’s outfit in each bag, so they can easily dress themselves each day on the trip.  On the way home, you can re-use the bags to protect found treasures or to transport dirty laundry.
• Don’t forget snacks!  Trail mix, raisins, granola bars - tuck them in your carry on before you leave because airlines have really cut back on food service.  A small cooler in the car for a long car trip will help you avoid the call of the chocolate donettes at the gas station shop!
• Before you leave, take a trip to Target or the Dollar Store and stock up on small toys and activity books for the kids.  Don’t give them to the kids before you leave; keep them with you and dole them out one at a time throughout the trip to keep them entertained.
